This Yellow-on-black 2005 SSR has been kept in a very well-maintained, near showroom-new-looking condition. Yellow was an outstanding choice to showcase the curvaceous design of this unique offering from Chevrolet. The roof operates for top-down driving in this one-of-a-kind convertible-sport-truck. The tasteful trim piece on the grille and the brushed-metal-finish, half-moon door handles add lovely design touches. Lighting lenses-including on the rear LED lights and cabin glass is also pristine. Factory chrome split-spoke 20-inch wheels (unique to the SSR) has bowtie-emblem center caps.
Inside, the well-designed black interior theme is accented with brushed metal trim on the dash, steering wheel, doors, and console. Black cabin carpeting is protected with factory mats. Leather upholstery has been very well maintained with no rips or tears. The driver-oriented analog instruments are fronted by the sport-design steering wheel with thumb controls. Farthest forward on the console are three engine-monitoring gauges, with the shift lever for the automatic transmission and surrounding brushed-metal trim, just behind. (Please view the close-up photography in the gallery to assess the excellent condition of the SSR’s interior surfaces).
The carpeted rear storage area with wood rub strips appears never to have held much cargo.
As cool as all the styling and brilliant design details of the SSR are, the heartbeat of any hot rod/sport truck is its engine and driveline. The SSR is motivated by a 300hp all-aluminum Vortec V-8 powerplant that puts power to the rear wheels through a 4L60-E electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmission. It pushes the SSR through the quarter mile in 15.36 seconds at 91.35 mph and reaches 60 mph in just less than 7.5 seconds.
Under the hood, the fuel-injected 5,3-liter, aluminum-block, Chevrolet V8 engine is a commanding presence beneath its “SSR”-branded cover. Delivering 300 horsepower when new, this performance engine is capable of propelling the SSR from 0-60mph in under 7.5 seconds.
