1972 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser – Resto- Mod
Color- Dune Beige, Toyota color 416, this was the original color of the vehicle and it has been repainted to match, some of the paint on the interior is original. There are scratches in the paint as this vehicle was used off road.
Engine- A well-executed Chevy 350 V8 conversion done by a previous owner. Ceramic coated block hugger headers, dual exhaust with Flowmaster mufflers and an Edelbrock 1405 Performer carburetor. Items replaced within the last five years include: rear main seal, pilot bushing, Edelbrock intake manifold, Pertronix Flamethrower distributor and coil, Edelbrock mechanical fuel pump, water pump, CVR Protorque starter, power steering pump, 3 row radiator, thermostat, Toyota alternator and voltage regulator.
Transmission- Four speed manual H-42 from a 1979 FJ40 or pickup. (The original was a three-speed) Completely rebuilt with all new Koyo bearings, new second gear, new synchros, new output shaft, new seals, new reverse light switch, Advance Adapters cast aluminum bell housing, new Centerforce clutch and resurfaced flywheel, new Aisin clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder, new throw out bearing. Note: there is no skid plate.
Two Speed Transfer Case- Completely rebuilt with new Koyo bearings and new seals, JT Outfitters Case Saver support brace installed.
Suspension – 4-inch Superlift leaf springs with stock shackles, and Rancho shocks.
Rear Axle – Rebuilt open differential. The Eaton locker unit was removed and the third member was rebuilt with new Toyota components. Also replaced axle bearings, axle seals, rear brake wheel cylinders and brake shoes, drive line parking brake was rebuilt with new shoes.
Front Axle- is from a 1983 Land Cruiser or pickup, with disc brakes. Replaced disc pads, Aisin brake master cylinder, remanufactured brake booster and proportioning valve, replaced axle bearings, seals, steering knuckle bearings, tie rod ends. GM Saginaw power steering conversion with new remanufactured gear box, Pro Comp steering dampener. Seller Note: I added 6 degrees of positive caster with wedges to improve street driving characteristics and to decrease the “wandering” that FJ40s are known for. This did increase the pinion angle significantly and I would suggest removing the caster wedges if you intend to off road the vehicle.
Interior – Front bucket seats, roll bar and rear jump seats are from a 1974 or later FJ40. A Toyota factory roll bar was added as the original 1972 had no roll bar, and the factory style braces are plug welded inside the wheel wells. All seat frames and roll bar were sandblasted and powder coated, all seats were reupholstered with new foam inserts and marine grade vinyl. Original “manual” steering wheel and horn button restored to like new, NOS dash pad, all gauge’s function, new floor mats, new visors and headliner, front heater core replaced, rear heater core is disconnected and bypassed because the core leaks, both heater fan motors function. New 18-gallon main fuel tank. Odometer is non-functional.
Tires- BFG 33/10.5 KO’s mounted NOS Toyota wheels with NOS hub caps.
Aftermarket Con-Ferr 22-gallon reserve fuel tank with electric fuel transfer pump that transfers fuel to the main tank, a switch on the dash operates the transfer pump.
NOS badging and indicator lights.
Complete set of Toyota tools and canvas tool wrap in near mint condition, Jack and jack handles all appropriate for 1972 FJ40. Toyota work light that plugs into an outlet in the glove box included.
A Kenwood stereo/CD player is hidden in the glove box, with 4 Kenwood speakers, one mounted in each corner of the vehicle.
